Hire DevOps engineers

Engineers who build the pipeline, the infrastructure and the monitoring around your product, and write it down as code you keep.

What a Tankar DevOps engineer does

Builds the path from a commit to production and the monitoring that tells you when something on that path has gone wrong. The work is infrastructure as code, pipelines, environment separation, secrets handling, backups with a tested restore, and dashboards that a developer can read at two in the morning.

Where this role pays for itself

On products that deploy often, on teams that lose a day to environment problems each week, and on any system that has to show an auditor how access is granted and removed. It is worth less on a small site that changes twice a year.

How the engagement is set up

A named engineer on your board and in your repository, a weekly demo, scoped credentials issued per person under the ISO 27001 process, and a handover week at the end so nothing is left in one person's head.

What each level brings

LevelWhat they bring
Junior
  • Builds and maintains pipeline steps for build, test and deploy against an agreed design
  • Writes Terraform and container definitions under review, and reads a plan before applying it
  • Handles routine operational work such as certificate renewal, log queries and backup checks
Mid-level
  • Owns an environment end to end, from network and secrets through to deploys and rollback
  • Adds the dashboards and alerts a service needs, with thresholds that reflect real usage
  • Sets up staging that matches production closely enough for a release to be trusted
Senior
  • Designs the deployment topology, cost model and disaster-recovery plan, and tests the restore
  • Runs incident response and writes the review that turns a failure into an alert or a test
  • Sets access control and audit trails against the ISO 27001 controls the client is measured on

Engagement terms

The terms that hold for every developer placed on this stack.

TermDetail
IP and source codeFull IP assignment at final payment. Infrastructure code, pipeline definitions and runbooks sit in your repository from week one, and an NDA is signed before discovery.
Access and securityLeast-privilege access to your cloud accounts, credentials issued per person, reviewed quarterly and revoked on the last day, under the ISO 27001 process.

Questions buyers ask

What buyers ask before they add a developer on this stack.

Will they need administrator access to our cloud account?

They need scoped access, not blanket administrator rights. The usual arrangement is a named account with the permissions the work requires, reviewed as the work changes and revoked on the last day.

Can they work with the cloud provider we already use?

Yes for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Tell us which one and which services you rely on before the shortlist, so the engineers you meet have used that combination rather than a similar one.

Do we get the infrastructure code or just a working environment?

You get the code. Terraform, pipeline definitions, container images and runbooks live in your repository from week one, so the environment can be rebuilt by someone else.

Can one engineer cover both DevOps and security work?

Partly. A DevOps engineer handles access control, secrets and hardening as part of the platform. A penetration test or an ISO 27001 readiness review is separate work and we will say so rather than stretch the role.

What happens when the engagement ends?

A handover week: a walkthrough of every environment, the runbooks reviewed with your team, access transferred and then revoked. Nothing should depend on a person who has left.
